ARE YOU READY? Things are coming together for the big walk June 15th. I will personally be tuning into ABCs special. I would of loved to come be part of the show; however, because of prior commitments I promised to be in Niagara Falls, NY at the end of July. I am still excited and can’t wait. It is my hometown, and I get to tell people that talk about it down here that is my stomping ground were history will be made! Despite the craziness that surrounded the event, lets take a look at the good. I was watching a WKBW special on how Canada is ready for 60,000-120,000 people to be over there. I am sitting here saying why God can’t it be the USA side? Then I realized hearing from different news stories the USA side is coming together. There will still be stuff for people to engage in. It is funny, it seems the city always works better when under the gun. The one thing I respect out of all this is Nik Wallendas ability. He is a man that is not afraid to stand up for his values. I truly believe that he will be back to help the community in which he stated many times. He had every reason to give up, but he held on and its almost show time. Something I think the residents of Niagara Falls, NY could learn from. I like many in the city are just so fed up looking around the area the way it is, and forced to see Canada and all its splendor. We say it should be us. What’s the hold up? Why can’t we get that splendor and beauty? My grandfather who was mayor of the city in the early 90’s made this quote when seeking the mayors office: “The view to the future is clear, all we need is the will, determination, dedication and perseverance to make what ever sacrifices that are necessary to fulfill the dream of a better life, for all of us and future generations.“ Then you look at what Nik Wallendas statement has been. When he is on that wire he is looking ahead. Looking forward to the prize that lies ahead. Something the leadership of Niagara Falls, NY has had trouble in doing. They always want to point the finger on who did what and when. Then there time is up and we get another person in that does the same thing. This stuff gets the city residents in a rut of nothing will ever change. I am here to say it can change. Every time I am back I just get the pit in my stomach that says I cannot side with the people who say never. I encourage you to really take this walk in. It is more than just a walk. It is chance to look forward and see what lays ahead and make the sacrifices that are necessary to get to where you know needs to be!

About: Dom CianchettiBeing a Niagara Falls, NY native I try to come back to the area about once or twice a year. I have a lot of ties to the community. My parents owned the pizza shop called Jacobs, and my grandfather was Jacob A. Palillo. However, like many I left the area for Charlotte, NC. You as the reader can probably venture the guess on why I left. It is unfortunate but Niagara Falls has fell on some very hard times. A lot of empty promises are made daily, and nothing can seem to get done. Meanwhile the young people keep leaving because of the dysfunction. I am one person though that always swims against the current. I try to keep my ear to the ground on a lot of issues. I am looking to return to Niagara Falls because I am optimistic with the right leadership the area can change! |
